faux.

thrifted coat / uniqlo heattech turtle neck / zara skirt

If you told me I'll love a good faux fur jacket two years ago, I'll look at you as if you have a third eye. I'm not the most adventurous person clothing wise – I love my jeans and t-shirt combo a little too much. I found this jacket at a thrift store and bought it for a project and I planned to resell it or just to give it away, but the more I tried it on, the more I love the idea of actually wearing it out. I didn't have the chance just yet because at this moment I'm sitting down in an air-conditioned coffee shop.

Another new thing that I tried (big pat on the back for trying so many new things at once), taking photos with flash and apply filters afterwards (on this and my previous post) used to be no-no for me, but it was so gloomy outside that day and I saw a bunch of editorial photos with flash and why not giving it a shot, right? I'm very pleased to report it's a lot of fun.

Try something new, experiment, and have fun.
Wishing all of you a happy, happy new year! (and please be safe)

rainy day.

stradivarius hat // zara top // esprit jeans

I am officially done with finals and I'll be heading home to the warmth of Bali soon. "Excited" is an understatement at this point. Escaping the rain and the fog (even though I love the fog) for a month is always a good idea.

Rainy day calls for a day in at home, except the fact that I need to hop out for a bit to get some groceries. For lazy people who doesn't want to carry an umbrella (slowly raising my hand here), wide brimmed hat is a great option, just pray that it doesn't blow away.

Another post will be up soon for the new years and I'm excited for it.

Merry Christmas everyone!

wear it

shein coat / diy lace neck tie / zara top / aliexpress pants / cotton on tote / puma sneakers

I have the bad habit of wearing the same thing over and over again and leaving some items unloved, in this case, it's this coat. I've had this coat for over a year now, but to be completely honest, I rarely wear it until a few weeks ago. My new rule in my wardrobe is: if you don't wear it, open a Depop shop and sell it.

And I just have to say that my heart goes out to all of you in Paris, Baghdad, Japan, and Lebanon. #prayfortheworld

Have a great weekend!

autumn lips #2

top to bottom: mac viva glam i, albeit rosewood, nyx soft matte lip cream copenhagen
Goodbye heat wave! It's finally cold enough for me to wrap some scarves around my neck. Last year I did a post listing some of my favorite shades of lipsticks for autumn and I really enjoy making that post, so here's another one.

Let's start from the top. I've been eyeing MAC Viva Glam I for quite a while now and back in the Summer I decided that it's the for me to get that stunning matte red lipstick. Viva Glam is on the darker red side of the spectrum and I think it's more flattering than a bright saturated red on me. Just heads up though, it's really dry, I have to scrub my lips before hand and but lip balm as base.

I don't think I have to say much about this second one because I've talked about it in my previous post. It's a good nude color for the days I don't feel like wearing bold lip. Albeit lipstick in rosewood has quickly become my all time favorite lipstick.

The dark lip option for me this autumn is NYX soft matte lip cream in Copenhagen. It's a deep reddish purple color, it doesn't apply as smooth as I wish it would but the color has amazing staying power and it feels really comfortable the lips. I would definitely try more of their matte lip cream.

What's your favorite lip shade for autumn?

photo diary: treasure island flea market

A little photo diary with random doodles from a trip to Treasure Island that my friends and I went to. It was definitely one of the best flea markets I've ever been to, so many vintage clothes (to the point where it was a bit overwhelming for me) and most of them are $5! I did wish I brought more cash with me, but I'm proud with myself for being very good at self-control that day. I got a new air plant named Pho (yes, like the delicious Vietnamese noodles) and a small handmade ceramic cup. Sadly, they only have this flea market every last Sunday of the month, which means the next time they open is next year. Can't wait to visit the flea market again next time!

rosewood

albeit lipstick in rosewood

Happy Monday and say hello to the prettiest lipstick packaging ever. The first thought that came to my mind when I saw them was "Peggy Carter's lipstick!" (yes, the one from Marvel, she's awesome!) After months and months of debating if I should get one, I decided it's time - I did well on my midterm so why not treat myself. A little pat on the back for not getting the red shade because I have too many red lipsticks for my own good, I decided to go for this more everyday color. Rosewood is the name is the perfect description of the color, it's rosy but it's leaning on the mauve - subtle and flattering.

thursday morning

I've been drowned with assignments and my brain is like scrambled eggs because midterm starts next week. I've been wanting to do this post since Summer (procrastination at its best) and finally decided to do take these photos.

Basically, these photos describe the things I do in the morning, it's not a routine because it changes all the time (including the time I wake up). But yeah, here's my Thursday morning.

As I said before, my brain is basically a scrambled egg, I can't seem to articulate myself very well in my posts that I've been trying to write, so this time, I'll just let some of the pictures I took speak for themselves - a picture worths a thousand words, right?

Hope you enjoy this post (somehow). Have a great weekend! x

September Loves

Wait, what? September is over  and it's officially autumn now! Okay, I know you hear this all the time, but seriously though, this year goes by so fast! Anyway, it's time for me to ramble about the things I've been loving.

H&M denim jacket - Quite recently, I found out that I have a soft spot for denim, I want them all. I've been tempted to buy a denim jacket since last summer when my sister bought hers and wore them a few times. Denim jacket is something that will come back and it looks better with more wear and I can't wait for this H&M jacket to be more distressed and fades. The amount of pockets in this jacket makes my heart sings. Two four pockets on the outside and two on the inside, there are pockets inside, you guys! My phone and keys will be safe!

Mario Badescu Drying Lotion - to my acne prone girls (and guys) out there, this is a must have. I first about it from Claire of Hey, Claire on youtube and I don't know why it took me so long to try this drying lotion. You see, these heatwaves that we kept having in San Francisco causes my skin breaks out (one of the reason I dislike hot weather) and it frustrates me a lot. One day I bought this product and apply it to my spots, and I see result the next morning, my awful spots had disappeared or to the stage where it almost disappeared - magic!

Orly bonder - My nails are flaky and sad, no joke. I love painting my nails different shades of nudes (and now deep reds) and I tried so many base coats but they never do anything good for my nails. After reading tons and tons of blog posts and review about this base coat, I finally decide it's time for me to try it, see if it actually works for me and the answer is a big yes. I can't quite describe how it works, all I know is it's thin, dries super quick, and it protects my nails from turning red from red nail polishes.

Elizabeth & James Nirvana Black - I was so happy when I saw this at the Sephora point perk. I spritz some of this fragrance every single time I visit Sephora, this mini rollerball is a confirmation that I LOVE this scent, it's going to be a sad day when I run out of this perfume.

Smith's Rosebud Salve - A product that I use on my lips after I wash my face and before bed every single day. I'm a big fan of lip balms in general but this one smells like rose and it stays on really well.

Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in Black - Holy, guacamole. This thing stays put and does not transfer on my super hooded and oily eyelids. It works wonders for tight-lining and soft-looking wings.

Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso - After months and months of searching for this blusher, I finally found it and it doesn't disappoint. Blush is something that I rarely buy because I already have a bit of redness on my cheeks, but somedays, I need to put on some blush because if I don't, I'll look like a zombie. I find this blush to be subtle (or maybe it's the way I apply it?) but it adds that little bit of color and luminosity.

What have you been loving throughout September?

but first, coffee

h&m jacket // vintage sweater // zara dress // sperry sneakers // cotton on tote
After weeks and weeks of dreaming for the weather to cool down (I don't do well in heat), I looked out the window one day to see Karl the fog (apparently people of San Francisco named the fog) had made an appearance - whoop! I threw on a dress and denim jacket but I decided to bring this vintage sweater with me, just in case the weather is cooler than I thought it would be (thank heavens I did, it was really cold).

I found this pink vintage turtle neck sweater in a vintage boutique in the Mission and all I can say is: it was love at first try. It has been quite a while since the last time I wore pink and this is probably the only pink piece I have on my rack that I called "wardrobe". Even though I love my neutrals, it's always good to have a few colors here and there.

match lo

Growing up, I have a thing for white shoes, they look so good with everything (skirt, cuffed jeans, shorts, dress, and basically anything in my closet) But white shoes + clumsy human is not a very ideal combination, there's no way for them to stay white for very long (for instance: my white Vans). This pair from Puma is pretty much a game changer for me. It's leather, which means it's really easy to clean. And they're obviously comfortable, I can't resist a pair of comfy shoes.

How do you feel about white shoes?

august beauty loves

I realized that I didn't include anything beauty related on my mid-august love post, so here we go.

Let's start with a base, I bought Dr Jart+ Black Detox BB because I need a lighter base. As much as I love my Tarte foundation, sometimes I just need a light, more of everyday base. It has enough coverage, SPF, and it has a pump!

Topshop bronzer in Mohawke is very helpful when it comes to creating some cheekbones for me. My cheekbones are pretty much nonexistent so a little help won't hurt. I like the fact that it's not orange like some other bronzers and I can apply it subtly.

MAC lipstick in Plumful - something I heard the beauty gurus on the internet talk about pretty frequently and now I get it. It's such and easy everyday color for me and it smells like vanilla!

Smashbox Jet Set Waterproof Eyeliner in Dark Blue - my eyelids are very hooded and oily, so basically any eyeliner will transfer to the top of my eyelids, not a good thing. I found this eyeliner at Nordstrom rack and I bought it because it's in navy (it sounds very appealing to me for some reason) and it did not disappoint. It didn't transfer on my top lid, I'm so happy about it!

The last one is actually a method I saw Karima McKimmie does quite often in her video. She has the best eyebrows (and skin), ever. In some of her videos, she uses Fix+ to dampen her brush and use brow shadows, and it looked so good and natural so I gave it a shot and it's basically the only way I do my brows now.

What beauty product have you been loving lately?

bag essentials #2

Behold, the bag that manage to fit all my stuff!

My sister got this bag in camel for her birthday a few months ago, and me being a the younger sister, copied her. *evil grin* My sister and I have very different style, she's the girly one and I'm the tomboy one, but we share most of our stuff when we were growing up because we basically have the same size. My sister is a handbag addict, she loves her handbags and I remember her coming back home from university, with a half of the suitcase filled with handbags. Anyways, she bought this bag and she whatsapp-ed me a (very blurry) picture of it. My initial reaction was "Oh, cute!" but I never really think of it until I saw it in person (and saw they have the black one). I stared for a bit and started to hold the bag and trying to figure out if it'll fit my camera in there (the struggle of finding a bag that fits my camera is real, you guys). My parents saw me  keep looking at this bag and asked if I want it as an early birthday present and there was a little firework going on in my head.

And if you're wondering, it fits my DSLR and film camera very nicely, both of them at the same time.

The stuff in it:
* The essentials: Phone, keys, wallet.
* Important stuff: Sunnies (I squint a lot), mints, hair ties (my hair is too long and it's getting out of control), lip balm, headphones.
* Handy stuff: portable charger, hand cream, hand sanitizer, tissue, USB, lipstick (I'm proud that I only have one lipstick in there right now)

What are your bag essentials?

mid-august loves

The first half of this month has been incredibly insane, and I finally have a downtime. This month started with ending my Summer classes (whoop, whoop!) and my parents came over to visit and we went for a little tour. Let's start before the trip.

The first official day my parents arrived, I took them to Alemany Flea Market per their request. I've always wanted to go to a flea market here but I always forgot (meaning: I slept in or I have work). There were so many amazing things there (I'll post some pictures I took while I was there soon!), it was a really good experience and I'll definitely go back there. When I was looking around at the flea market, I found this navy and gold Anne Klein watch for such a good price and it hasn't left my wrist ever since.

Few days later, we went off for the tour. It was fun (mostly consisted of me snoozing off in the bus), we went to a few different states to visit the breathtakingly gorgeous national parks (more pictures on instagram). That being said, I needed everything that screams comfortable, so before we left for the tour, we went to Macy's to pick up a pair of white sneakers that my sister wanted (hurrah for tourist discount!) and when I was looking for my sister's shoes, I found these lovely Sperry sneakers. I kept staring at them, mostly because of its unusual laces, and well now I have a black (it's more of a charcoal black) sneakers to add in my black shoes collection. Speaking of shoes, there's actually another pair of shoes that didn't make it to the photo because I ran out of masking tape for the bottom of the shoes - fail. Anyways, I'm talking about my white Puma sneakers (which will have its own post later), basically I only wore these two pair of shoes the past month or so (I lied, there's another pair of shoes that I wore but they're not as comfortable, not a favorite).

The fourth thing (the second is the tour itself, the third and third and a half are the shoes) I've been loving are my glasses. Why? you may ask. Because when I was on the tour thingy, I was being an idiot that thought "I'll wear contact lenses today," even though I knew for a fact that I was going to take plenty of naps on the bus. Don't do it, bad idea, a very bad one, learn from me. So I spent the next few days and basically the rest of the trip wearing my trustee glasses while looking everywhere to buy eye drops for my incredibly irritated eyes. But it's all good now, thank God.

Moving on from the irritated eyes topic, I've been trying to find the perfect cup and saucer ever since I moved. A few weeks back, I went to CB2 (one of my favorite places) and I saw this cup - it's not too big, it's transparent, and it's light, it's perfection! Actually, I take that back, it's not perfect, it doesn't have a saucer. I went around and I finally settled for this small round appetizer plate to go with it. Yay for mix and matching.

I apologize if your eyes are so tired right now, should've warned you. I've had too many sugar and two big cups of green tea that is way more caffeinated than I thought, and I'm feeling really weird and hyper right now, whooo. Alright, let's move on.

Last but not least is reading. What? I never mention anything about reading here because it has been quite a while since I picked up a book that is not a textbook. I've read three or four books since July, it all started with The Secret History by Donna Tart, recommended by my friend. It was such a good book, by the end of it I was all "Wait, what? I can't believe that happened!", definitely a must read. Another friend of mine recommended Sidney Sheldon's Master of The Game, again, amazing! I'm horrible at giving opinion for books, all I can say is amazing, that was really good, or anything along that line, just go read it, or find some actual review of the book on goodreads or something. I read halfway of the second book of Master of The Game and it was meh, not as exciting as the first one so I put it down. I'm currently reading If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon, who by now is probably my favorite writer. Another amazing book is Attachments by Rowell Rainbow, it's hilarious and sweet, definitely a lot lighter than the books I previously mentioned. Something I really like about these books are the settings are not exactly in modern day. Something that is not a novel is a magazine, well actually, magazines. Drift is a magazine about coffee, isn't that incredible? A whole magazine dedicated for coffee. This volume is about Tokyo, filled with so many beautiful photos, essays, guides, and recipe. Kinfolk is another magazine that I've been enjoying, I'm sure you know Kinfolk, so many beautiful essays. Please leave me some book recommendations if you feel like it.

Phew, turns out, this post does have an end. Alright, I'm signing off for the day now. What have you been loving this month?

mixtape #2

Hello, hello. It has been quite a while since I last posted anything. Summer this year is very different from last year to say the least. I’m interning for a start up leather good brand here in San Francisco, I took a Summer intersession class and Summer classes (I feel like I’m going to pass out, I really need a break). My parents coming to visit me soon and we’re going to leave the city for seven days for a little tour - similar to the one I went to when I first got here, the excitement level is really really high.

But before all the excitement begin, I need to finish my summer classes and I need to find inspiration. Being uninspired is one of the worst feeling, at least for me. I’ve been reading novels, doodling, watching movies, walk around, went into stores, sitting in front of my laptop for hours and hours, but I’m still looking. Hopefully, with this little trip coming up, I’ll be inspired again. I’ll be documenting the trip of course, bringing both my DSLR and SLR and I’ll share the results here.

For now, I’ll just leave you with some songs that I’ve been listening to, enjoy, and have a great day! x

Mid-June Loves

Hello, hello! Half of the year is gone and 2015 has treating me amazingly so far. I missed my monthly favorites for May, and I don't want to wait until the end of June to write this post. So here is my Mid-June favorites!

1. Olympus Pen EE-2
As you might know, I am completely in love with film photography now. I often find myself scrolling through eBay looking at film cameras, which is not very healthy. I carry camera with me most of the time now, because it is very travel friendly. It's a lot lighter than my Minolta SRT-101 and it's smaller and fits into every bag I own.

2. Umbra Jewelry Organizer
I was museum hopping with my friend and when we visited the museum store I was so fascinated with brand called Umbra. They had different things on display and the one that caught my eyes is this accessories organizer. The geometric design is what I love the most about it, so simple but very pleasing to the eye (well, at least to my eyes they are).

3. LUSH Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask
I love walking into LUSH but I find the store a bit overwhelming - there are so many products and they all smell good! My skin hasn't been the best lately, so I figured it's time to have a little pamper. I've used it for 3 or four times now and it made my skin feels really nice and calm.

4. Nicole by O.P.I in That's Putting It Mild
Basically the only color on my nails for the past month or two. It's not too grey, not too nude, not too white. It goes with everything I wear and it looks really simple, clean, and subtle.

5. Name necklace
Recently, my roommate went for a trip to New York and she got me this necklace as a souvenir. I've been trying to find a necklace with my initial on it but having a hard time finding the one that I like. When my roommate came back and gave me this necklace, I was so excited! It's a great piece to layer with my other necklaces.

What's your favorite thing this month so far?
